Dr. Dennehy is actively involved in teaching, research and clinical care. Her primary areas of research include: the epidemiology and etiology of viral gastroenteritis and viral respiratory disease, rotavirus disease and prevention, the testing of vaccines and immunobiologics for prevention of rotavirus, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus and the diagnosis and treatment of neonatal herpes and congenital CMV. She is a former member of the Collaborative Antiviral Study Group and the American Academy of Pediatrics "Redbook" Committee. She is Past-President of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society.

Dr. Dennehy is a member of numerous professional organizations including American Academy of Pediatrics (Infectious Disease Section), American Pediatric Society, American Society for Microbiology, European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Infectious Diseases Society of America (Fellow), Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (Fellow) and Society for Pediatric Research.
