Michael Smit, MD, MSPH, is a pediatric infectious diseases physician at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and faculty at Keck School of Medicine of USC in Los Angeles, California. He also serves as the Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

He received his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point, in New York. He received his Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Colorado. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Dr. Smit is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases, and has been awarded the Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

His major areas of research interest are emerging infectious disease epidemiology, Ebola virus disease, infection control, pandemic response preparation, medical education in low-resource settings, and tropical medicine.
